Add MCT

What is an MCT?

An MCT describes the time between landing and takeoff at an airport. MCT is an acronym for Minimum Connection Time and is described in minutes. For example, if Flight #2481 lands at JFK Airport at 08:20 and leaves again at 09:05, JFK has an MCT of 45 minutes.

Is there a way to import my MCTs?

Yes! However, there are a few restrictions to the import procedure.

  1. You can only import text files. You cannot import binary files such as Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in their native format.
  2. The field values need to be delimited by either a TAB, a comma, or a pipe (|) character. These files are commonly known as CSV files or comma separated value files.
  3. Your MCT data files cannot contain more than 720 lines. This requirement is imposed to limit the processing resources required to interpret your data. If your MCT data is longer than this limit, you may split it into several smaller files and import each one separately.

This "Import" thing sounds great, how do I make a CSV?

The answer depends on what program you currently use to store your MCT data. Some companies retain their MCT data in a mainframe and queue a report job to have their data printed. Some companies may use a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel or LOTUS 1-2-3. If the first case, you will probably need to contact your system administrator or program analyst for help in creating the necessary report to produce the CSV file.

If you are using a spreadsheet program, chances are that you can create it by yourself. For example, in Microsoft Excel you should be able to look under the File menu of the main menubar for an option called Export. Selecting this should present you with a dialog box asking what file name, type, and location you'd like to export to. You can name it anything and save it anywhere, but make sure you select the CSV file from the File Type pulldown list. Next, it will ask you if you want to delimit your data with TABs, commas, or some other character. You will also have the option of quoting your data. MCTWare can support TAB, comma, or pipe delimiters and can handle data quoted with either double or single quotes.

When I try to import, it won't!

As mentioned above, verify that the file you are trying to import is text only! The data fields must also be separated by a TAB, comma, or pipe character. If your data is quoted, make sure you have specified the proper quoting style to the Import utility. Lastly, you must make sure that the file contains 720 lines or fewer. If the file you are trying to import is longer, you will need to split it into smaller files and import each one separatly.

If you are still having problems importing your file, you can email your CSV file to mctware-feedback@GoldenWare.com and we will import it for you.

How do I add a new MCT record?

Either click the "Add" link from the Home Page after logging in, or click the "Add MCT" button in the navigation bar. Begin entering the data describing the MCT in the entry boxes and pulldown menus. There are fields describing the Affected Airport, the Previous and Next locations.

After filling in all desired fields, click the Add MCT button at the bottom of the page. The record(s) will be added if there are no input errors.

For your convenience, there are toggle buttons for the Frequency field to select/deselect all days, or to invert the current selections.

Do I have to fill in all those fields?

No. The only two required fields for an MCT record are the Affected Airport and the MCT. In fact, if there are data fields that you never use, you can use the Preferences page and disable them.

After adding a record, I get the same page!

When you add a new MCT record, the data will be stored in the database and the same page will reload with the previous record's data. You should see a yellow dialog at the top of the page to indicate that the previous record was successfully stored. WARNING: If you click the Add MCT button again without making any changes, you will be adding a duplicate record!

The previous record's data is carried over and re-inserted in the entry boxes to provide faster data entry. It is common for many of the MCT records to contain the same data. By carrying over the previous record's data, you can make changes to fields that are unique to the new MCT record and store the new record.

In the event that the new MCT varies significantly from the previous MCT's data, there is a "Clear Defaults" button that will reset the form to it's pristine state.

Do I have to add a separate record for each DOM/INT field?

No. When adding a new record, it is common for the same data to apply to all four DOM/INT fields of DD, DI, ID, and II. If you are entering data that is the same for all four fields, simply click the checkbox in the DOM/INT area and four separate records will be created, one for each DOM/INT field.

How do I edit/delete MCT records?

You must first start with the Browse Page to find the record(s) you are interested in editing or deleting. From the Browse Page, you can enter in search criteria or just leave the page with its defaults to return all your records.

Unless you are logged in as the Guest account, your matching records will be displayed so that you can edit them. After you have made your changes, click the Save Changes button or the Delete Tagged button to commit your changes.
