Publishing:
What is publishing?
Publishing is the act of sending your MCT data
to a list of email addresses. You have the option of using email
addresses from your distribution list, or you can send to email
addresses you supply when you publish. Additionally, you have the
option to send your data in several formats.
How do I use the Publish page?
There are two ways you can initiate the publishing
process. Each method is addressed below:
- Click on the Publishing button in the navigation bar.
- Publish the results after performing a Browse operation.
1. This method is primarily used if you want to publish all
of your MCT records. However, it is possible to publish a subset of your
records from this page. You have the option of limiting your published
records by Record Status, Record Creation Date, and Last
Modified Date.
2. If you only want to publish a subset of your records, you
should use this option. Select the desired records by using the
Browse page and look for the link at the bottom of the results
that says "Publish Browse Results" as shown below.
Publish Browse Results
Whether you start with the Publish page or get there from the
Browse results page, you will also need to specify the desired
output format (CSV,HTML,Text,XML), attachment versus in-line, the quantity
of additional email addresses, and other email addresses.
The next page of the publishing procedure you can fill in the additional
email addresses if you requested any and provide a subject and message.
The final page of the publishing procedure allows you to preview the message
before it is actually sent. The MCT records you will publish are either
listed in the body of the message if you selected in-line, or by clicking
the "attachment" icon if you selected attachment.
Define the different formats
When publishing your MCT data, you can choose
from the following formats. You will be able to select the desired
format each time you publish.
- XML - Your data is formatted in an XML heirarchical
representation. All records are wrapped in an MCTWare tag
so that anyone receiving your records will be able to interpret
the remaining MCTWare XML definitions.
- CSV - Selecting this format will ship your data to the
desired recipients in a Comma Separated Value file. This is
a common format for importing/exporting from spreadhseet and database
applications. Note that the first line of the file contains the
data field header names such as Affected Airport,
Record Status, and MCT. The header names are also
comma separated.
- Text - This format is also referred to as columnar. As
with the CSV format, the first line represents the data field header
names. Each subsequent line represents your MCT data. All data
should line up in columnar format with the field header names if
you use a fixed-width font to display the file. If you use a
variable-width font, the data will not align properly. The Text
format can also be used for importing into spreadsheets and
databases, but chances are good that the import will not be as
accurate as using a CSV format.
- HTML - Using this format will create an HTML file with
all of your data formatted in an HTML table. Recipients should
be able to save this file and point a web browser at it to easily
view your data.
How do I add/remove data fields?
As with all other pages concerning your MCT
data, you will only publish the data fields you have enabled.
By enabling or disabling data fields from the Preferences page,
you can control which data fields will be sent to your recipients.
How do I publish a subset of my records?
You can achieve this with option 2 in the
publishing overview. Basically, you will use the Browse page
to find the records you want to publish and use the "Publish
Browse Results" link. For example, this method can be used
to publish the records for a particular airport.
How do I publish deleted records?
You can and you can't! If you want to notify others
about MCT records that are no longer valid, you'll want to publish the
subset of MCT data with a Record Status of Deleted. The
Record Status attribute is the field you should use when you want
others to know that your records have been Created, Edited, or Deleted.
Do not confuse this with the "Tag to Delete" indicator after you
use the Browse page. When you Tag a record for deletion and hit
the Delete button (or even the Save Changes button) under your Browse
page, the tagged records will be permanently removed from MCTWare!
How do I change the Publishing Addresses?
The email addresses listed at the bottom of
the Publishing page are derived from you publishing list. When you
first created your account, you had the opportunity to add a list
of email addresses for publishing.
You can add to this list, or remove addresses from the Preferences
page at any time. The checkboxes next to each name on the Publishing
page allow you to check the addresses you will publish to for the
current publishing session.
